The evolution of my personal Mastermind group + what I'm learning about compassion
Welcome! Last month I introduced a new Mastermind benefit to our Substack, and it was such a joy to share and read entries from some of our community. To learn more, you can reference this post:

As I was preparing my reflections for this month’s post, it occurred to me that my answers were all personal and pretty off-base from what I imagine happens inside traditional Masterminds.
I’ve been part of Mastermind Groups that have been very business-oriented with an emphasis on achievement. When
, , and I started our group nearly 10 years ago, we were in our late 20s and early 30s, buzzy bloggers, caught up in the entrepreneurial dream.Today, we often remark how much we love the way our “meetings” have evolved to be centered around friendship and support. We chat much more about personal struggles than business ones, and I think that the fact that our friendship has overshadowed our businesses means we’re doing something right.
Did our Mastermind group turn us into millionaires as some groups suggest?
Nope.
Have any of us become internet celebrities?
Hmmm…maybe a little bit. 😂 Most recently:
Kalyn’s YouTube Channel
Lauren’s Instagram
Have we figured it all out?
Definitely not.
But do we feel supported as we keep learning and trying new things?
Yes, and to me, that’s the greatest benefit to Masterminds. Success and failures are fleeting, but relationships are the things that keep us going through the peaks and valleys.
Success and failures are fleeting, but relationships are the things that keep us going through the peaks and valleys.
I’m sharing all of this because I think the term “Mastermind” can be intimidating. If you’re reading this and you don’t have a six-figure business, or you don’t feel like you’re an expert in anything, or even that you know what you want to do with your life, you’re in the right place. That’s all of us.
As I said last month, my vision for these monthly “meetings” is to foster a small group, amid a gentle setting, with low-pressure expectations. If you’d like to participate in this month’s questions and read the responses from other members of our creative community, I hope you’ll consider upgrading your subscription, even for a month, to check it out!
