Last week, we chatted about the concept of your Fantasy Self — an idealized version of who you can imagine you might be…one day. Today, I want to get into tangible ways to cultivate that essence of your Fantasy Self, by refining your personal aesthetic.
The dictionary defines aesthetic as: concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty, but most people today use it interchangeably with “vibe” and “mood”. I personally see refining your aesthetic as an opportunity to get comfortable with who you already are and not the ways you need to change.
If you're an artist or a creative who's ever felt stuck, you might be holding back from expressing all the unique thoughts and ideas swirling in your head.
I've found that it's much easier to create and get into a flow state when you're confident in yourself and can freely express what makes you unique.
A quick note for all the creative rebels who hate being put in a box
The thought of “defining” your personal aesthetic might feel overwhelming, limiting, and irreversible (how I feel every time I consider hanging wallpaper in my house). When it fact, with the right execution, it should have the opposite effect and make you feel free. Part of celebrating your uniqueness means giving yourself the permission to change your mind, to experiment and evolve.
