If you’ve been following along over the last few weeks, you know that I am on a mission this year — a mission to simplify my life.
Here’s where you can get caught up or revisit January’s posts:
Vision Board Reflections
My 2024 Vision Board and Word of the Year Reveal
In a lot of ways, my life is already quite simpler (dare I say easier) than most, but while I don’t have a daily commute or kids to raise, this season of life is… interesting.
A peek into our life in the year 2024
Between my husband’s weekly work travel (I’m grateful to have a schedule/work situation that allows me to go with him!), caring for our aging kitties, carving out quality time with our parents during the stretches they spend here in Florida, and juggling additional visits with family and friends, there is so much coming and going that my brain is in a constant state of spinning to keep track of it all.
Life is good, but it’s not typical, making it hard to plan and stay organized. There are too many variables and moving parts. And if I had to guess, I imagine that your life has its own set of unique circumstances that can make your days feel challenging to manage.
I’m a fairly organized person, but I realized my stuff was in too many different places. I had lists in my Notes app, business goals in my planner, finances in spreadsheets, appointments in my calendar, and way too many reminders in the form of flagged emails.
I was spending an enormous amount of time and energy toggling from tab to tab, and computer to phone, to notebook, to planner, to calendar, and almost always, getting distracted in between tasks.
Creating a central hub
Last year I was introduced to a platform called Notion, a place to think, write, and plan. At first, I just used it for a few project plans.
But the more I used it, and the more I saw examples of other folks using it, especially my friend Kalyn, I realized that I could bring all of those moving pieces of my life: business, family, travel, visits, finances, meal planning, and goals, all into one place.
It didn’t mean that it would make life slow down, but it would make it easier to manage.
A look at my Notion Setup
I’m still a Notion newbie but I though it would be helpful to show you:
What I’ve been using it for so far, and screenshots of my pages
Links to the templates I’ve created (free for you to use) and the ones I’ve purchased
How I still plan to use it in new ways to further simplify and free up brain space for creative work and mental wellness.
Let’s start with a peek at my home dashboard, a hub for all the most important things in my life:
